Patience Rwabwogo, a daughter of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has been ordained as a bishop at Covenant Nations Church, marking a significant milestone after more than two decades of ministry.
The consecration took place on Sunday, August 23, at Covenant Nations Church on Maya Hill in Wakiso District. The ceremony was witnessed by a number of believers and religious leaders. Among the attendees were President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, who had been out of the public eye for some time due to health complications.
The consecration was led by international evangelist Bishop Dr. LaDonna Osborn, with Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere serving as co-consecrators. During the ceremony, Rwabwogo was presented with a certificate and a Bible, as well as traditional episcopal symbols, including a mitre, staff, ring, cross, and clerical garments.
Osborn commended President Museveni and the First Lady for their faith and for prioritising God despite their responsibilities as national leaders. She encouraged Rwabwogo to expand her ministry, promote justice, and uplift the lives of others.
“A bishop is supposed to lift people up and give them a new beginning,” she said.
Rwabwogo founded and has led Covenant Nations Church for more than 20 years. Her ordination makes her the first woman to be ordained as a bishop in the history of Uganda.
President Museveni expressed his gratitude and congratulated the new bishop on the milestone, praising her commitment to ministry. He also shared several occasions when he had learned from his daughter about matters concerning God.
“I was surprised when I learned from Patience about the descendants of Lot and Esau, who were not Jews. I had never heard anyone talking about it. But when I read Patience’s documents, they informed me about it. I surrendered because she had read the Bible,” President Museveni said.
First Lady Janet Museveni also thanked God for her healing and expressed gratitude to all those who had interceded for her day and night. She also celebrated the milestone achieved by their daughter.
“You have bestowed upon us the honour of choosing one of our children to serve you in this capacity,” she prayed.
Mr. Odrek Rwabwogo, Patience’s husband, thanked the Lord for making his wife the first woman to be ordained as a bishop in Uganda.
“Today, the Lord has chosen our own Patience to be the first woman to be ordained a bishop in Uganda,” Mr. Rwabwogo said.
