Two employees of Next Media Services have died following a road crash on Entebbe Road, with another staff member fighting for his life in Intensive Care Unite ICU.
The crash happened in the early hours of Friday near Stabex in Namulanda, along the busy Entebbe-Kampala route.
Next Media Services confirmed that the deceased are Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye, who died at the scene of the accident. Their colleague, Brian Ssemanda, also known as Makona, survived but sustained critical injuries and is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Kisubi Hospital.
The media company said it remains in contact with the hospital and will continue to share updates on Ssemanda's condition as they become available.
Preliminary information from traffic police indicates that the crash occurred at around 2:00am when a Toyota Hilux, registration UAS 976W, travelling from Entebbe towards Kampala, reportedly lost control and crossed into the opposite lane.
The Hilux subsequently collided head-on with a Toyota Allex, registration UA 779DE, which was approaching from the opposite direction.
Police said two people died instantly in the collision, while two others, including the Hilux driver, were rescued and taken to Kisubi Hospital for medical attention.
The bodies of Kasirye and Ndamagye were later transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for postmortem examinations.
Traffic police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said officers were still obtaining information from the Entebbe Traffic Police personnel who responded to the scene.
He said the precise cause of the accident had not yet been established and that more information would be released after the investigations are completed.
Next Media Services has asked the public to respect the privacy of the families of the deceased and allow Ssemanda's family and colleagues space as he undergoes specialised treatment.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in Uganda, coming only days after a deadly crash at Lwera swamp along the Kampala-Masaka highway claimed 14 lives and left four people critically injured.
Official police figures show that Uganda recorded 25,107 road crashes in 2024, including 4,434 fatal crashes. The figures translate to an average of roughly 14 road deaths every day.
Police have repeatedly identified speeding, dangerous overtaking, mechanical failures and failure to observe traffic rules among the major factors contributing to road crashes, while poor road infrastructure also remains a concern.
